The Shawshank Redemption In Waiting

Do You See + FTPost a comment • 767 views

cindellra.jpgBasically Cinderella Man is a solidly told true story of the depression and the power of sport to inspire people. But it came at the wrong time, with the wrong subject and probably the wrong cast to explode at the box office. Perhaps that is how Ron Howard designed it – to be a sleeper hit in waiting: though one thinks probably not as The Da Vinci Code seems to be his stab at revenge at the cinema going public for not going to see it.

Sam and Max: back Back BACK!!

FT5 comments • 1,208 views

Sam and MaxOr perhaps, not, Not, NOT!!! We were all very excited in the many chambers that comprimise my BRANE to see a new short (4 hrs gameplay according to the review) Sam and Max game is out – but how come I hadn’t read this previously in Edge magazine? Edge is my usual source for sycophantic w4nking over any Lucasart (complete or not) IP – but perhaps I didn’t buy that issue cos it had a stupid war game grumpy looking soldier on the cover? But what if the brand is not actually representative of the product? What is Top Of The Pops trying to sell?

MUNGO JERRY – “Baby Jump”

MUNGO JERRY – “Baby Jump”Mungo Jerry’s shot at the mutant blues suffers from its proximity to Hendrix on the one side and T Rex on the other. Those sci-fi and glitter visions make “Baby Jump” sound like a smirk, not a strut, a cartoon growl that’s too broad to be funny (despite its clever-clogs lyrics). The band try hard to sound like wild men – but only the piano man, making his instrument into a toy laser pistol, manages it. Worst mistake though is the horribly unnecessary false ending, a perfect case study in how to kill a song’s energy and make it outstay its welcome. .

Goodie Whispering

Do You See + FT6 comments • 1,079 views

Tonight’s televisual entertainment was twofold. A repeat (I missed it the first time round, dunno about you) of Bill Oddie’s How To Watch Wildlife saw everyone’s shortest Goodie meandering around his manor of Hampstead Heath extolling the various natural virtues of said urban wilderness through each of the four seasons.
