OK, OK, we are an indie rock site: analysis of the 236 reviews posted on NYLPM since its inception yields the following genre breakdown:

Indie – 38% (includes punk, post-punk, grunge, indie pop and indie rock from the mid-70s to now)
80s-00s Pop – 15%
Hip Hop – 14%
Rock/Metal – 10%
Dance – 6% (a fair bit of blurring between dance, hip-hop and pop went on)
Pre-80s Pop – 5%
Avant-Garde/Experimental – 3%
Downtempo/IDM – 3%
Country – 2%
Reggae – 1%
Jazz – 1%

Blues, Folk and Pre-Rock Pop had 1 reviewed track apiece and so don’t get a percentage.

It Is Shaggy!: for obvious reasons we do not normally blog the chart news, however it is worth noting and gloating over the Manics’ positions. Their “gamble pays off” according to dotmusic: yeah, they’ll be delighted with 8 and 9.

People Talk Too Loud!

People Talk Too Loud! is a new(?) site with an indie rock focus but it approaches the subject with a certain amount of humility, is nicely designed and seems – so far at least – to be article-focussed, which is refreshing in the review-happy indie community. No startling perspectives, but likeable and worth a look.
